Oil Stick Works

The oil stick works are inspired by the gritty, textured, and elemental nature of the oil stick marks to create a contrast with the other artistic elements of the work. They are often drawings of objects that comment on culture or elicit personal nostalgia.

Motocross Series

Dirt bike racing and jumping are a very nostalgic pastime for many Michiganders. I wanted to update this heavily masculine and niche activity with some culturally juxtaposed colorways and more modern painted expression that lend themselves to the adventurous activity.

These are all painted/drawn with oil sticks and acrylic on 24”x30” canvases.

Masculine Figures & Dirt

Using masculinity and masculine-assuming activities as the inspiration for this imagery I try to express the idea of gender more fluidly.

Mixed Drinks

Using common drinks to juxtapose cultures and elicit nostalgia and other emotions tied to product graphics.

US, Taiwanese, & Mexican products are all featured in this painting duo. Some of which will be nostalgic and familiar to some and unfamiliar to others which then begs us to reflect on product graphics and how they affect the very nature of our emotions and the lack there of in things that are not within our cultural environment - both with drinks and in other products or non-products.

The Graphics are represented loosely and without detail. Simplified to their more basic form and yet still recognizable as all branding was intended to be.
